My ultimate challenge for 2018 is to get fit! I have many reasons I would and need to do this. But ultimately it is for the greater health benefits and to keep up with my boys. And 2018 is the perfect year to do this, as we are planning a trip to Scotland with the family in the summer so there will be lots of walking involved as we visit and tour the sites.

Things that I am attempting in my challenge include: eating smartly, increasing my physical activity and tracking my progress. Oh it all sounds great on paper, it’s putting it into action that is challenging. I love to eat, and by that I mean all the tasty carbs that are not good for the waistline. And if given the choice, I would much rather spend my time on the computer on Pinterest or social media rather than being physically active.

I know this has to change, I just find it challenging. But I am taking baby steps in the right direction. And with any newly created habit, it takes adjustment time. What I’ve started to do is increase my physical activity level by going for brisk walks. I received a Fitbit to monitor the number of steps I take in a day and have set a challenge for each day to walk 8000 steps per day. Now I don’t always reach my goal each day, but that’s okay. I’m not giving up. However, I love it when I do reach my goal steps per day, by Fitbit buzzes and a little display of fireworks shows on the screen. I love it!!

VegetablesNow I also need to work on my eating habits. No easy task but one I need to do. It is no secret that I hate to cook and loath vegetables, making my challenge even more difficult. If only chocolate was considered a diet food…  I know I just need to monitor my portion sizes and food choices, it’s my challenge but the end result is so worth it. I need to find recipes that make vegetables taste like sweet candy, maybe then I’d eat more?? I am also trying to drink more water each day. The challenge with that is it makes me need to visit the ladies room more frequently each day now.

To help with my fitness challenge I have also entered into a healthy weight-loss challenge created by my sister-in-law. The premise is a group of individuals who help each other in their journey to healthy living by increasing physical activity and make healthier choices when it comes to food selections. The winner of the challenge is determined by who lost the most weight. I’d love to win but I am finding it difficult to commit.

I am a stress eater. When I am stressed out, which is more frequent lately, I tend to eat and make bad choices. Chocolate tends to be my go to. Bad I know, but true. I am trying to minimize the stress levels but when you have 5 boys, it can be challenging at times.

Well it’s only the middle of January, there is still lots of time to work on my challenge of getting fit in 2018. Wish me luck!

Take care.
